Shed Set Up Projects

Once the shed had a roof, the exterior was done. Now I needed to make it functional as storage, part time greenhouse, vlogging studio, portable Ham station - all with off grid power. At least, this was an area where I felt more comfortable building things. However, getting all four of these ideas into a 10' by 10' space took a bit of planning ... and do overs.

Shed Storage

Shed Wall Shelves Shelves are the most obvious addition. Utilizing upper space also seemed logical. Spacing was a guess but the lower shelf had to be higher than the lawn mower handle, to allow for more stuff to be snugged up to the wall. (3 shelves x 10 feet each may not be enough)

Workbench A Workbench with upper shelf also seemed logical for using the shed as a gardening staging area and ham radio station. I set the height of the workbench at bar height, since I expected to stand for to do most things - but maybe I'll also need bar stools too.

Shovel Rack Every garage and shed has a problem with long handeled tool storage. I saw this idea in a retail store, shovel display. It's made from garden fence lattice. I modified the design and have used it for over 20 years. Friends & relatives have since borrowed my design.

Part Time Greenhouse

Seedling Shelf The translucent plastic roof was planned to allow to use the shed as a part time greenhouse for seed starting and perhaps micro greens - if seed starting works out okay. This under the roof space gets very hot in Florida summers, so it only works as a greenhouse in Winter. Otherwise, it's just a storage shelf ... it's primary use.

Vlogging Studio

Vlogging Vlogging I've only made about 70 videos in the last decade but I hope to do better with a new 'shed studio.' It will be a great place for taking ya'll out to the wood shed for some serious man to man chats. Even got a handy large clip board for my script notes. (Definitely need bar stools!) I expect to post these video chats on more than one platform, since I'll probably piss off somebody... They'll probably be similar to some other series I've done. See page 12.

Portable and Mobile Ham Station

ham station A portable Ham Station requires portable power, i.e. 12 volt battery system with solar charging ... and so lights for shed lighting. I used several small batteries which are easier to transport than a large heavy battery. To keep them charged, I used a 100 watt solar panel with a 30 amp charge controller. Should the power go out for an extended time, I can power all my radios out in the shed. Pictured is a computer running a software defined radio but the set up allows me to use any of my radios in the shed.
