DIY Projects

Doing most things yourself as much as you could, ie DIY, was just normal living to me, how I grew up in rural Ohio, not a hobby nor out of necessity. Consequently, I've engaged in a lot of projects.

Straight Bible Websites

Straight Bible is an Internet presence where I endeavour to present truth, sraight from the Bible. However, my studies required me to evolve from just any conservatative evangelical sort to a more informed Bible presenter. Once I realized that the Bible was an ancient middle eastern book and that modern westerners had next to nothing in common with it, I endevoured to rebuild my faith by carefully considering what the first audience got from sacred writings and how that could be translated into modern practical understanding and use. To present my understanding on the Internet, I registered four domains so no one could steal my brand. I hand coded their websites but the seminar and teaching websites never got finished. However, over the course of time I published 14 books and produced 42 Straightbible videos --> Youtube Playlist Here

Update 2022: After 15 years, I've abandoned that online presence and deleted domains. While the Bible Seminar idea didn't pan out, it did inspire publishing books and videos. I guess that alternative success is acceptable. See page 14 on this website.

Firewood Rack

I had a firewood rack, used to store trimmings from my trees. But over time, my makeshift rack collapsed. I decided I would build something more enduring than using misc scraps. I made a Youtube playlist for it and its sign - my first engraved sign. Video Series --> Youtube Playlist Here

Shed Stools

Bar StoolsShed stools also seemed like a good project for a wood worker. However, I had no guide, nor Youtube tutor. I had to wing it. I made a foot stool to test out my idea of how to do it. Then with that learning, I built two regular bar size stools. They are mostly doweled - almost no screws in them at all. The came out pretty well and sturdy enough to stand on but they're rather heavy.

Engraved Wood Signs

Engraved wood signs seemed a logical skill set for a wood worker and I did have a few things I could label that way. Youtube was my tutor, even ordering the recommended router bits. My first one was not very good but I improved with practice. The one pictured here was my fifth attempt. Not too bad, if I say it myself. Youtube Video --> Youtube Video

Trail Camera

trail cameaI like the trail camera videos on Youtube so I thought I'd get one to see who was bashing my gate and letting the dog out, didn't capture the culprit - didn't happen again after I installed the camera. However, I got plenty of shots of the neighbor's cat pooping in my yard on my cheap Toguard camera. I have no other interesting places to put it, I live in the suburbs, so it just sits on a shelf over my desk.
